From this shot and the drone video on our homepage, you can see that we are in a secluded valley in rural Tompkins County. (our mailing address is Ithaca, but we are located 9 miles south of Ithaca Commons in the Town of Danby) Tenwood Lodge was designed for families to unplug from the crazy life and reconnect with each other. In a the current Covid-19 era, Tenwood Lodge is perfect for just that.

Finger Lakes, Southern Tier and other areas re-open in first phase on May 15

This week, Governor Cuomo outlined a plan to reopen New York State. Our plan focuses on getting people back to work and easing social isolation without triggering renewed spread of the virus or overwhelming the hospital system.
New York will reopen on a regional basis as each region meets the criteria necessary to protect public health as businesses reopen. New York State remains on PAUSE through May 15.

The Tenwood Lodge synopsis on travel in the era of Covid-19:

  • Lodging is considered an essential business, we are available for guests, but want to have a clear mutual understanding of expectations between us, therefore all our reservations through July 15 will require extra communication via email and/or phone.
  • Tourist activities in Tompkins County are highly limited at this point (May 13, 2020) since many restaurants, all museums and theatre and other indoor attractions are closed.  Some restaurants are closed and others are offering take-out, the grocery stores, big box stores and liquor stores are open with mask and social distancing restrictions.  Most wineries, some restaurants and our favorite catering venues are offering wonderful items that you can pickup curbside take home or consume as personal picnics (if it would just stop snowing!!!)
  • Americans have the personal freedom as well as personal responsibility to take protective measures for ourselves and the community by practicing social distancing as the reopening occurs.
  • Prior to a full statewide re-opening, using Tenwood Lodge as your family retreat or remote work environment, puts you in a lovely  rural setting with plenty of fresh air and few humans for interaction.  Wineries, grocery stores with shopping restrictions or curbside pickup or delivery, and restaurants with take-out are the current limits of our tourism.  But as always Ithaca's hiking and bicycling and the Tenwood Lodge gorgeous kitchen await you.
  • When you decide the time is right for you to spend time in a different setting, as proprietors of Tenwood Lodge, we'd like to point out the following benefits for you to choose our area and our lovely vacation rental home when you are planning your post Covid-19 getaway.

As a vacation rental with 4 to 6 bedrooms medium to large family groups can enjoy these aspects ( and more) of Tenwood Lodge together:

  • Plenty of indoor space with great views of nature.
  • Huge, well-equipped kitchen and dining area-great for cooking your own food, enjoying take-out from our wonderful local restaurants or for enjoying catered food.
  • Outdoor gas BBQ and 3 picnic tables, 3 sitting porches.
  • Plenty of outdoor space with lawns, woods and a night sky with no light pollution (except what you create with the firepit)
  • Excellent wifi for you to do as much or a little online work as you choose.
  • We practice physical distancing in our barn studio during your stay, but can assist you with questions as needed.

Tenwood Lodge B&B offers 5 rooms as part of 3 different suites:

  • NOTE: This option of Bed and Breakfast may or may not be available when you contact us
  • Two family suites that share a bath with each other  (the Tenwood Family Suite and the Bunkhouse Family Suite)
  • Individual rooms in the family suites are available with private bath for those who are traveling with smaller groups
  • The Master Spa Suite with a lovely tub for 2 ensuite.
  • The Bunkhouse can be set up with a private entrance if desired to increase physical distancing.
  • Feel free to discuss our evolving plans and your preferences for serving Breakfast and utilizing common areas during social distancing.

Old News:  NY State on PAUSE
(last updated here May 10, 2020)

Regarding travel in New York State and re-opening businesses, click here (and scroll down) to see the Governor's plan for opening the state carefully by region (as of May 2, 2020 he was discussing a date of May 15 for "western" NY-which would include Ithaca and the Finger Lakes).

As of May 10, 2020 it was unclear what the Governor is planning to do regarding the non-Metro areas:

"When we get to May 15, I'll lay out the numbers and we'll say, 'This is what the numbers say,'" Cuomo said when asked about the directive Friday. "There's no doubt that this is a terrible period, but we have to get through it. If we make a mistake and we act too quickly the situation is only going to get worse and it's only going to get longer."

CDC says to stay home, but.....

CDC has made some travel recommendations for US travel.  When you decide it is time for you and your family to get away from the same walls you've been looking at for weeks, or time to make up for that vacation in Italy or Europe or across the country, we are 6 hours from Boston, 3 hours from Niagara Falls, 4 hours from Philadelphia, 10 minutes from hiking or our nearest winery and  8 minutes from our new cidery.  Grocery stores in Ithaca are 15 minutes away.  Restaurants and catering are offering takeout and more details will be released as NY Forward Reopening continues.
