Buttermilk Falls State Park is a 811-acre state park located southwest of Ithaca, New York, USA. Like Robert H. Treman State Park, a portion of the land that was to become the state park came from Robert and Laura Treman in 1924.

Wedding Venues

We don’t do weddings here at Tenwood Lodge but we do host family wedding groups. Reasonably sized or low-key rehearsal dinners are a possibility (discuss in advance).

Celebrations  We have 4 daughters and began the wedding parade at Celebrations in 2011. John and Laurie are the BEST! Celebrations offers full service catering hall and ceremony site – we had the reception of our first daughter to get married here- Great food, no stress, high-quality.

Food/Restaurants

Top choices for purchasing food to cook are below, but don’t forget, Ithaca has more restaurants per capita than NYC, plus the organic farms and CSA’s galore, Farm to Table options, plus chefs to go make Ithaca truly a foodie’s paradise.

Wegman’s – if you’ve never been there, GO!  If you take it for granted, Don’t! Purchase food to bring home and cook up in our cook’s kitchen, OR bring home prepared food (so many options!) to heat and eat. OR get catering, bring it home to Tenwood Lodge and pretend you did all the work, so easy!

We absolutely love Stella’s Barn-Saturday night they have Prime Rib (go early or it may be gone) and Kim’s favorite dish of 2017 is a special of Seared Ahi Tuna on a bed of Asian Kale Salad with Wild Rice Medley (see picture!). Prices are good, portions generous and service friendly and very good! Located on Rte 13 in Newfield, you can get there without going through downtown or right after a day at nearby Robert Treman State Park.

Shopping

Ithaca is home to many shopping centers, outdoor plazas, malls, and boutiques. Anything you want or need, you can find nearby in Ithaca.

The Ithaca Commons – a unique pedestrian center lined with some of the city’s most interesting architectural facades – is the centerpiece of Ithaca’s engaging social and civic life. Independent boutiques and more than a dozen art galleries make downtown Ithaca a mecca of urban culture.

The Dewitt Mall is a small one with antiques, home decor, books, toys, and more. Also at The Dewitt Mall is Moosewood Cafe – named one of the 20th century’s most influential restaurants by Bon Appetit magazine.

The beautiful State Theater of Ithaca always hosts talented and well-known musicians. Ithaca is known for its resident musicians, who contribute to a music scene which is unusually talented and diverse for such a small town.

For Kids

Live music is an important part of Ithacan life. If there is a show during your stay at Tenwood Lodge, we always recommend checking it out.

The Ithaca Sciencenter is much more than a hands-on science museum  It’s an escape from inclement weather, it’s a great playground when the weather is nice and it’s a wonderful family excursion anytime.  Often closed on Mondays (except certain Holidays), don’t forget to include it in your itinerary if you have kids 2-14.  If you are a member of certain other children’s or science museums, you can likely get a discounted (or free admission).

Cass Park is a regionally, active park used heavily by residents from all parts of Tompkins County. In addition to the ice rink and swimming pool, there are 4 tennis courts, 32 athletic fields (4 of them lighted), playground equipment, an exercise trail, and a large picnic pavilion.

The Cayuga Nature Center, a public education venue of the Paleontological Research Institution, provides an opportunity for young nature enthusiasts of all ages to learn about environmental and outdoor education in a fun and engaging way. Some of these opportunities include a live animal programs and a butterfly garden. Aside from personal attention with staff, a highlights is the multi-story treehouse in the back overlooking a lovely waterfall, great for kids to get their wiggles out.
